Sara Brand is the Founding General Partner of True Wealth Ventures, an early-stage VC fund investing in women-led businesses improving environmental and/or human health. She is also the co-founder of (512) Brewing, the largest draught-only, self-distributing microbrewery in the U.S. before COVID. Sara was previously in venture capital and management consulting in the Bay Area as well as in a variety of strategic and operational roles in large tech companies. Sara holds a Ph.D. and M.S. in green design and manufacturing from UC Berkeley and a B.S. in mechanical engineering from UT Austin.
A dual citizen of the USA and Australia, Dr. Pamela Ryan’s unique skillset and diverse experiences have been applied in business, psychosocial and political arenas around the world. A psychologist by training, as Managing Partner of the Everywhen Capital Group, Pamela manages an eclectic portfolio of business partnerships, organizations and investments intent on positive impact, including the Tingari-Silverton Foundation and a ‘green’ sheep station (ranch) to improve biodiversity in South Australia. Dr. Ryan received her Ph.D. with award winning research on the psychology of decision-making in the US venture capital industry, and has been a Limited Partner in venture capital funds in the USA and Australia for over 30 years. An impact entrepreneur at heart, she chaired international NGOs Psychology Beyond Borders and Issues Deliberation Australia for over ten years each. Her latest book, Impact Imperative, Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Investing to Transform the Future is an evolution from her previous academic papers—e.g. “Why Some Venture Capitalists Escalate & Others Don’t”, “The Psychology of Microfinance” and “The Future of Entrepreneurship and Impact”—and provides insights from innovators around the world on how we might contribute to a better future as these tumultuous 2020s unfold.
Katie joined General Catalyst in 2018 to build the executive talent function. She's honored to be a part of a venture capital firm committed to investing in powerful, positive change that endures. She and her team advise their portfolio companies on hiring top performing and diverse talent and guiding their cultures through growth. Katie has worked in venture capital for the past ten years; before joining GC she was the talent partner at DFJ and DFJ Growth and was one of the first human capital specialists hired inside a venture firm. Prior to becoming a VC, Katie helped to launch an SF-based boutique search firm with a focus on building early-stage companies’ go-to-market teams and strategies. She lives in the Bay Area and is an active participant with multiple local not-for-profits, including the SF SPCA, Homeless Prenatal Program, Community Grows and Summer Search. On the weekends, you can typically find her on a road bike or in Marin's trails with her husband and their golden retriever.
I am an investment executive, securities lawyer, qualified financial expert and experienced board director with extensive investment sector experience. I oversee large P&Ls and complex corporate initiatives to drive growth, performance and value. Operating at the intersection of financial, legal, and investment perspectives, I offer unique insights to for innovative solutions, structures and risk management. I speak regularly at industry events and conferences and am recognized as an investment and pension expert.
I am currently leading as the founding Executive Director of the research arm of an investment industry think tank to enable thought leadership among asset owners and institutional investors in areas of impact to investment programs and portfolios, including ESG, financial innovation and private capital. I feel this is my opportunity to tackle some pressing topics and create a track record of actionable work in these areas that will have impact on multiple investment programs.
